If you’ve got that feeling about your dentist, I encourage you to come in for a second opinion. The patient in this case was glad he did.
The previous doctor had placed a post and was planning to do a crown. But pus was draining out of the patient! The patient ultimately felt the doctor was struggling too much getting things right.
It turned out the previous doctor drilled almost out the side of a tooth – where there wasn’t great bone support to begin with. As a result, infected abscesses had formed on both sides.
In my opinion, the doctor was performing work using materials and methods from 25 years ago… all of which created a lot more problems. And the patient had spent a lot of money at his previous doctor already.
But it’s never too late to get things right. We explained everything to the patient and showed him all of the x-rays above. The diagnostics don’t lie. While the patient certainly wasn’t happy with his doctor’s work, he ultimately cut his losses, and we got him started on a realistic plan to fix everything using modern materials and methodology.
